I’ve been using LOGICkeyboard’s at home and at work for some time now, and am very impressed by their quality. After giving them feedback on my purchases, I was approached to make a nice and simple online style video to showcase their products and demonstrate ease of use. So here it is, Take the Shortcut.
I produced the video from the initial concept right through to the final upload. Once I sorted the initial idea, I had a series of discussions with the client via email, until they were 100% satisfied that this was how they wanted their products to be marketed. Once I had the concept approved, I then wrote a short 2 page script, and story board from which I created a shot list. I recommend using a shot list, blocked out with all the similar shots together, this saves a ton of time when It comes to the shoot. I then put out a casting call for the voice over with a New York style voice in mind, kind of like the old IBM TVC’s (Television Commercial). The reason behind this idea is that the main market for the product was the USA, and since Im in Brisbane Australia, I didn’t want an Aussie accent distracting the viewer. Now, you think this would be a bit of a challenge but within a few days I found Shawn Corbett, who has extensive experience with voice overs, accented or otherwise. We were able to work over the internet, firstly I sent him the script, and he was able to record the voice right there and then, and email the audio file back to me. I then Simply dropped in the audio where I thought worked with the timing of the image. This whole process was made very easy, with Shawn Producing the exact voice I had in mind from the get go.
For the main character, I had originally lined up an actor to do the job but due to other work commitments he was unable to find the time, so I ended up having to do the acting as well. This wasn’t my preference, but I think it worked out ok in the end.
The entire shoot only took around 5 hours including all the lighting setup’s.
Now all had to do was upload the completed project to the web. Firstly on Youtube and now on Viddler. And there you have it, an online Commercial, dropped right into the heart of the market.
This Online TVC was editing using LOGICkeyboard equipment. I still use the same gear today and can thoroughly recommend their products and service. And i’m not just saying that, its actually quite good!
